Referral & Re-Sign Rules

Effective Date: October 8, 2025

Know how the referral process works. This section explains how members are dispatched from the out-of-work list, how the books are organized, and what's required to re-sign and keep your place on the list. Reviewing these rules helps make sure you don't miss an opportunity when your name comes up.

Sign Times

Monday thru Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm

Applicants may initially register on the "Available for Work" list in Person, Email, or Fax.  Refer to IBEW 540 Referral Policy for Requirements

Referral

All Day

The referral agent will call the numbers that have been provided.Failure to answer will result in a Turn Down and move on to the next applicant.

Turn Downs

3 Turn Downs

On the 3rd turn down the applicant will be removed from the list. Rejection by an employer will not be considered a turn down.

Short Call

21 Calendar days or less

Permanent Call

More than 21 Calendar days cumulative

Re-Sign

Re-sign is YEARLY, no sooner than the 1st or no later than the 15th of January

Registrants must include their registration number and name to be a valid re-sign.

Re-signs can be made by 1 of 4 methods listed

1. In Person at the referral office  (2333 Nave Rd SE  Massillon, OH  44646)

2. Fax-using resign sheet (330) 834-0099

3. E-Mail at ibew540resign@ibew540.org 

All required re-sign information listed in the email subject line

Applicant’s failure to have a valid re-sign between January 1st – 15th will result in their removal from the “Available for Work” list.

The Business Manager may re-instate the applicant with a valid acceptable excuse they will receive a Turn Down.

The Business Manager is responsible to fill calls in a timely manner as needed by the employers. Referrals may be made outside of normal business hours using whatever means necessary to fill the request. Vacations, temporary medical concerns, and temporary reasons for unavailability presented in writing will be given to the Business Manager for consideration.
