What We Do

Our mission is simple:

To build a skilled, safe, and fairly paid electrical workforce that strengthens our members and the communities we serve throughout Northeast Ohio. IBEW Local 540 has represented electrical workers in Stark and the surrounding counties for generations. We negotiate for fair wages and benefits, train the next generation of electricians, and advocate for the safety and dignity of every member on every job.

What Is a Local Union?

IBEW Local 540 is one of hundreds of local unions chartered by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), a labor union representing electrical workers across the United States and Canada. While the IBEW sets standards and provides resources at the national level, Local 540 is where the work actually happens: we negotiate contracts, run apprenticeship and training programs, dispatch members to jobs, and represent electricians here in Northeast Ohio.

In short, the IBEW gives us strength in numbers. Local 540 is where that strength shows up for our members, day in and day out.

Our Partnership with NECA Contractors

IBEW Local 540 doesn’t work alone. We partner with signatory contractors, members of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), through collective bargaining agreements that set wages, benefits, and standards for union electrical work in our jurisdiction.

This partnership is supported by the Canton Electrical Labor Management Cooperation Committee (Canton LMCC), a joint effort between Local 540 and NECA that connects skilled union electricians with contractors and promotes the union electrical industry across the Canton area. Community Involvement

Our members don’t just work in Northeast Ohio; they live here too. IBEW Local 540 is proud to support the communities we serve through charitable giving, volunteer work, and local partnerships that help our neighbors and neighborhoods thrive.

Every year, our members volunteer to decorate the Christmas tree in Downtown Canton and take part in IMPACT Canton, a hands-on community improvement event. We also recently donated the labor and materials to replace all the outlets, switches, and light fixtures at the Chasing Hope House.

We’re proud to support local organizations making a difference, including:

  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Autism Society of Greater Akron
  • Aultman Angel Auction
  • Feed Kids First
  • Be a Better Me Foundation
  • J Babe Stearn Community Center
  • Toys for Tots
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank
  • Wishes Can Happen
